The Gardens

The gardens at The River House have been established over time (1950s onward) and are of a welcoming,  informal and rambling style. They extend around the house providing mature examples of camellias, roses, rhododendrons, azaleas, buddleias, hydrangeas, flowering cherries and apples, wisteria,  fruit trees (apples and pears and stoned fruit as well as citrus), native trees plus whatever else survives wallaby nibbling! Such a variety of trees and shrubs provides a constantly changing palette of colour and texture through the seasons. This wonderful variety of flora attracts over 50 species of birds into our environs over the course of the year, as well as frequent co-habiters of the land such as wallabies, bandicoots, rabbits, potoroos and the occasional echidna.

Outside Activities

Numerous vantage points can be found in the gardens for taking in the views of the Tamar Valley or enjoying quiet reflection. Take an early morning stroll down the road to capture the 2700view of the Tamar River Valley, providing glorious river and surrounding country scenery. Or you may wish to enjoy a game of quoites, boche, or croquet; perhaps a  swim, in season, in our 6m x 10m solar heated pool.

The Swimming Pool

The 10x6 metre solar heated outdoor swimming pool is available for guest use, generally during daylight hours, late spring through to early Autumn, except for daily servicing and maintenance times. Complimentary pool towels are provided for use during your stay.
