Gourmet Food Delights.

Launceston Tamar Valley and its surrounds offer great food and wine experiences for all. There are dozens of  caffes and restaurants offering delectible fare within a half hour of The River House, with the closest Cafe 4 mins away. We will refer you to some objective guides but we can only recommend what we ourselves have found enjoyable in terms of food, ambiance and surrounds and of course service.

The Australian Good Foods and Travel Guide lists some of our favourite restaurants such as
Stillwater (Modern Australian, winner of the best restaurant of the year in the Tasmanian Hospitality Awards).

Brisbane Street Bistro ( Modern Australian, Winner best European style restaurant).

Cataract Bistro ( Modern Australian winner of the best restaurant in an hotel).

MeWah (Cantonese and past winner of numerous awards).

Pierre's (Modern Australian and the oldest  brasserie cafe in Tasmania).

Other great places we have enjoyed are:

Prickly Cactus (Mexican) where we have always had a fun meal.

Fish"NChips- eaten here a dozen times and always enjoyed the caual experience.

Novaro's (Modern Australian with Italian influence) which more than one guest has said beats anything on Lygone Street.

Out of town a coupleof places we know you will enjoy are:

Josef Chromy where you will also be able to taste and enjoy their great wine.

Barnbougle Dunes is a great spot when zipping around the cellar doors in the Pipers River region; great food in a spectacular spot.

And of course just down the road from us is Windermere Cafe, where you can get great coffee, nibbles and lunches seven days a week. A bonus here is that they are also the tasting venue for Native Point wines.

Boutique Wine Delights

The Tamar Valley and surrounding wine regions produce four wine types to a very high quality; this is a premium cool climate wine region producing world class wine.  Our top four wine types are  Pinot Noir, sparkling wine, Reisling and sweet whites. This doesn't exclude Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and other varietals among wines that taste exceedingly well - you will find more variation in these I believe.
