About Us

Your hosts Helen and Carl, after living in numerous locations around the State, interstate and overseas, settled in the Tamar Valley in 2005 to develop The River House and enjoy the lifestyle of the Valley.

We both have backgrounds in education and a considerable experience with owner-house design and development, as well as following agrarian pursuits. We have family in Hobart and on the Northern Island, and are passionate about the Tamar Valley. Our interests include listening to music, enjoying food and wine, family and friends, gardening and all that The River House environs and guests bring.

We recognize that our guests’ needs are varied and we endeavor to be warmly welcoming and discrete. We also recognize that the one thing all our guests have in common is the expectation of a high standard of facilities, as well as service, and we aim to deliver on both aspects, beyond expectations.
